Around here Texas holey rock costs 7 bucks a ound! The only place cheaper is a chain pet store that has it for 2 bucks a pound but the selection is poor, it looked like holey rock, just no holes, peices were too small. Your story is exactly why I decided to use lace rock instead of holey rock.

Texas Holey Rock is a very dense rock which does not allow microbes to penetrate the surface (think of ocean live rock as a sponge and harbor for bacterial colonies). Its not porus....Used for a Fish only tank FO tank i guess you could but not for a reef. Its heavy too.

The nice thing that I have found about the lace rock is that it is much easier to build more caves with.
